Recent research carried out for Bright Grey, the Edinburgh based protection specialist, has underlined the importance of practical and emotional support at the point of a claim as well as any cash payout.
When asked if they would like the support services of trained nurses and counsellors who could visit their home should they be diagnosed with a terminal or critical illness, 92% of all respondents claimed that this service would be valuable. Additionally, when these respondents were asked if they would be more likely to buy a protection product that included these services, 74% confirmed they would be.
Roger Edwards, Bright Grey Products Director, says: “When you are diagnosed with a terminal or critical illness, the last thing on your mind at that moment will be a cash payout. You’re far more likely to require the emotional and practical help and support of trained professionals; people who are there to help you and your family through the coming months. Money would be a secondary concern at that time.”
As a plan owner with Bright Grey, if you make a claim you are entitled to use the services provided by Bright Grey’s partner, RED ARC. RED ARC is an independent care advisory service. They provide information, advice and support to people when they need it most - usually as a result of illness or disability.
The research also revealed that 89% of people who would be more likely to buy a protection product with these services, would also be willing to pay more. On average, those willing to pay more would pay an extra £7 a month. However, Bright Grey customers need not worry about paying anything like this amount. The cost of the “helping hand” service is included in the price of the plan.
Roger Edwards concludes; “Although our research reveals that people would be willing to pay much more for this service, I do not believe they should need to. We have priced our products competitively to include the RED ARC service. Bright Grey believes passionately in doing the right things for our customers. To me, this service is a hugely complementary enhancement to the overall proposition.”
