Would she be able to support herself and her son if she became unable to work because of an illness or an accident?

What if she suffers a critical illness? How would she keep the mortgage payments going so that she won’t be forced into selling their home?

What would happen to her maintenance payments if David became ill and was unable to work or died?

What would happen to Arthur if she died?

In an ideal world Amanda would have enough Life or Critical Illness Cover to pay off her mortgage and other debts if she died or suffered a critical illness.

She would also have the maximum amount of income protection to replace her income if she was unable to work because of an accident or illness.

She should also consider taking out family income benefit on David so that if he died his maintenance payments continue to be paid.

But on a budget of only £40 a month Amanda can’t really afford all of this cover – but she might be surprised at how much of it she can afford.
